Advanced Ads – Sticky Ads

Advanced Ads – Sticky Ads

Sticky ads are a feature of the Advanced Ads plugin that allows you to display ads that remain in a fixed position on your website, even when a user scrolls. This functionality is available through the paid Sticky Ads add-on, which is also part of the Advanced Ads All Access bundle

Sticky ad placement options

With the Sticky Ads add-on, you get access to several new placement options that you can configure to your liking:

  • Header Bar: An ad that remains fixed at the top of the browser window as the user scrolls.
  • Footer Bar: An ad, also known as an anchor ad, that remains fixed at the bottom of the browser window. This is a popular option, especially for mobile devices.
  • Left Sidebar & Right Sidebar: These ads are attached to the main content area and can be set to stick in place as the user scrolls past them.
  • Left Bar & Right Bar: These ads are attached to the browser window itself, rather than the content area, giving you more control over their position.

How to set up sticky ads

  1. Install the add-on: First, ensure you have the Advanced Ads plugin installed and activated. Then, purchase and install the Sticky Ads add-on. You can download the add-on from your account page on the Advanced Ads website.
  2. Create a new ad: In your WordPress dashboard, go to Advanced Ads > Ads and create a new ad or use an existing one.
  3. Create a new placement: Navigate to Advanced Ads > Placements. Click New Placement and choose one of the sticky placement types from the list (e.g., Footer Bar).
  4. Configure the sticky placement:
    • Give your placement a descriptive name.
    • Choose the ad you want to display in this sticky position.
    • Use the placement's settings to define additional options. You can add a close button, set a time delay before the ad appears, or add display and visitor conditions to control which users or devices see the ad.

Important considerations and tips

  • Respect AdSense guidelines: If you use sticky ads with AdSense, you must follow their specific guidelines. Ensure the ad does not permanently overlap or obstruct content or navigation elements. For example, sticky footer ads should not cover more than 30% of the screen.
  • Use device conditions: To improve user experience, it's a good practice to use the "Device" visitor condition to target or disable certain sticky ads on specific devices. For example, you might only show a sticky footer ad on mobile and a sticky sidebar on desktop.
  • Customize the close button: For better control over user experience, you can add a customizable close button to your sticky ads and set a timeout period before the ad reappears for the same visitor.
